Belize Customs Department Collaborates with World Customs Organization to Enhance Efficiency

The Belize Customs and Excise Department is hoping to improve the efficiency of its operations with the assistance of the World Customs Organization (WCO). As a member of the WCO Belize is required to measure and publish average release times for goods through a Time Release Study. The tool is expected to calculate the precise time it will take for the department to clear a package. Today, the department held a workshop to familiarize its officers with the inner workings of the digital tool. Earl Stewart Jr, a WCO representative, explained that the goal of the project is to improve the overall day-to-day operations at the customs and excise department.

Estella Bailey-Leslie, Comptroller of the Customs and Excise Department, explained that the project’s implementation was hindered by the COVID-19 pandemic.
