Belize Defence Force’s Forward Operating Base in Sarstoon to Reopen

And troops patrolling the Sarstoon will soon be able to stay longer in the area, thanks to the re-opening of the Belize Defence Force’s Forward Operating Base (FOB) in the area. The base has not been operational since last year due to infrastructure damages caused by erosion. Soldiers were forced to vacate the FOB and now patrol the area daily on boats. However, Minister of National Defence and Border Security Florencio Marin Jr., explained that soon the base will be back up and running.

Florencio Marin Jr, Minister of National Defence: “But I know that I am being pressured by Cabinet to move fast. The Cabinet is telling me, I mean, it’s about high time, we’re moving too slow, so we gotta get a move on.”
