Belize extends condolences following death of former Suriname president Chandrikapersad Santokhi

Belize has extended its condolences to the people of Suriname following the passing of former President, Chandrikapersad Santokhi, who served as Head of State from 2020 to 2025. Yesterday, Belize’s High Commissioner to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, Gale Miller Garnett, signed the official condolence book opened at the Embassy of the Republic of Suriname.  The gesture comes as Suriname marks the passing of Santokhi, who died on March 13 and was laid to rest yesterday.  In signing the book, High Commissioner Miller Garnett conveyed Belize’s sympathies and solidarity with the government and people of Suriname during this period of mourning.  Santokhi is being remembered for his leadership during his time in office and his broader contribution to national development.
