Belize Falls 7–0 to Costa Rica in Gold Cup Match

In a tough blow for Belize’s National Senior Men’s Football Team, Friday night’s game ended with a seven-nil score in a Gold Cup Preliminary Match. Despite the lacklustre performance on the field, Belizean fans were in full support, cheering on the team throughout the game. Unfortunately, Costa Rica proved to be too much for the Belizean side, dominating the match from start to finish. In a postgame press conference, Belize’s Head Coach Charles Slusher spoke about the team’s defeat and stated that many of the players decided to withdraw their participation due to various issues.

Charles Slusher, Head Coach: “I want to say I’m very proud of the guys that went out there tonight especially when they were forced to do something that they didn’t get accustomed to last minute and especially against a power house like Costa Rica. The results is expected if you don’t play organized football and you cannot play organized football on the last moment before the game you had to sign new players to be in a situation. Anybody knows the game and that’s why I did everything that I can to have the core, my core players who know our playing style, who know the system, who can keep the ball, we played excellent football all the other games not because of me but because we have the quality of players to do it.”

The game was sold out hours before the match began.
