The Forest Department has received a new Toyota Hilux vehicle to enhance mangrove conservation and environmental monitoring. The truck, valued at over ninety thousand dollars, aims to strengthen the department’s Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) Unit. It will be used to support key field activities like updating Belize’s mangrove map, conducting carbon stock assessments, and collecting vital data for conservation efforts. The department says it will also improve operational efficiency, helping better monitor mangrove cover and support ongoing restoration projects. It will also assist in enforcing regulations for newly designated mangrove reserves, advancing Belize’s commitments under the Belize Blue Bond Agreement. Funded through the Belize Fund for a Sustainable Future, the initiative is part of a larger project focused on strengthening governance and management of Belize’s coastal and marine resources.
