“The Wit, Turneffe”- it’s a new dive destination in the making that TASA hopes would become a top diving hotspot in the region. In a little more than a week, the Wit Concrete- a 375-foot concrete ship built between 1942 and 1944, will be sunken. Most recently, she was used for the storage of molasses by the Belize Sugar Industries Ltd. (BSI), who gifted her to TASA in May 2021. The Turneffe Atoll Sustainability Association (TASA), in collaboration with Blackbird Caye Resort and Blue Finance is transforming the Wit to Belize’s largest wreck dive and reef enhancement project. But before that occurs, the media was given the opportunity to board the vessel once last time. Senior Reporter Hipolito Novelo went exploring and files the following report.
