Belize Government Eliminates Fees at Public Clinics

Belize Government Eliminates Fees at Public Clinics

The fees at public health hospitals and clinics are now being eliminated.  The government made the announcement today, saying that the decision was made in an effort to ensure universal access to quality healthcare in the country.  Minister of Health and Wellness, Kevin Bernard, explained that the government is aware of how such a decision will assist Belizeans in accessing healthcare.  The minister explained what areas are being targeted in terms of the removal of fees.

As it relates to persons who currently owe the public health facilities, those debts are also being written off.

As noted by the minister, the elimination of fees does not include the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.  We will have more on this new initiative in tomorrow’s newscast.
