Belize Hipball Association Wins Gold at Seventh Mesoamerican Hipball Championship

The Belize Hipball Association brings home gold after participating in the seventh Mesoamerican Hipball Championships. The team played a Maya ballgame called “Ulama”, which is similar to Pok-Ta-Pok. The tournament is normally an annual event; however, due to the COVID-19 restrictions much like everything else, it had to be put on pause. President of the Belize Hipball Association, Eric Cal, explains that the team has been practising Ulama since 2017, but hasn’t participated frequently in the tournament due to finances.

Team members hailed from Yo Creek, Orange Walk, Ladyville, and San Pedro.
