Belize is hosting the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) National Border Control Officers Attachment Programme this week. The initiative, supported by the Eleventh European Development Fund, aims to enhance the skills and knowledge of border control officers across the Caribbean. During the opening ceremony, Ambassador Amalia Mai emphasized the growing role of border officers in facilitating trade and ensuring regional security. Minister of State for Foreign Trade, Marconi Leal Jr., also highlighted the vital role these officials play in tourism, security, and economic growth. Belize is the first CARICOM member state to host the programme, which will be replicated in other countries in the coming weeks. The event also saw participation from senior officials, including Lawrence Sylvester, Belize’s Ambassador to CARICOM, and other leaders from the Border Management Authority, Customs, and Immigration Departments. The week-long programme aims to strengthen the region’s border control systems and support CARICOM integration.
