The Investment Summit 2023 will officially open tomorrow at the Grand Caribe Resort on Ambergris Caye. The 3-day event will see some five hundred businesspersons, potential investors and stakeholders gather for informational sessions, high level discourse and presentations on potential investment in and for Belize. Executive Director for Beltraide, Dr Leroy Almendarez noted that on the first day, Prime Minister of Belize, will be presenting on the transformation of the country’s economy and certain industries over the past 33 months since his administration took office.
Dr.Leroy Almendarez, Executive Director, BELTRAIDE: “On the first day itself, I mean, at the opening ceremony is I think it’s important to highlight that our main speaker, of course, is our Prime Minister, the Prime Minister of Belize Honorable John Briceno who will give you know at least look at the transformation from 2021 to 2023. 2021 was the first version of this summit. And so from 2021 to 2023, what are some of those changes in terms of investments and what area of investments, because as we look forward and as we have made the necessary legislative policy and procedural changes, those are the things that are very important for foreign investors and local investors. And I must emphasize that whatever policies, whatever procedures, whatever strategies, whatever legislative changes are in fact put in place, they embrace foreign investors and local investors. So you will hear engagements where it comes to energy you know the whole discussion on green energy, how do we make ourselves greener? How do we make ourselves greener? We focus on renewable energy and you recently heard about that loan agreement that was signed to increase renewable energy output through the establishment of a solar plant. But you will also hear, you will also have, you know, the embracing of those ambassadors accredited to Belize and those discussions, how has this relationship benefited both countries?”
Other presentations will come from government ministers presenting on their roles and accomplishments. Those ministerial portfolios will range from New Industries, Economic Development, and other relevant areas to the summit.
Dr.Leroy Almendarez, Executive Director, BELTRAIDE: “A big part of this, just like in 2021, is we will be having two panels, two ministerial panels, the first panel on day one and the second panel on day two strategically hearing from six different ministers about things and their contribution to meeting our macroeconomic goals. So you’ll hear about sustainable development. You will hear about from logistics e-governance and energy. You will hear about from the Minister of culture, the Minister of State and the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment. You know, we’ll also hear from the Minister of New Growth Industries. So all of those things and to say, okay what opportunities exists? And because it will be streamed live and there is still a hybrid component to it those who are listening, those who are physically present, and those who will be listening can now understand because our theme this year is “Endless Opportunities.”
The summit starts tomorrow. We will have the highlights presented in our newscasts throughout this week.
