Belize Joins Mexico’s Historic Moment as Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum Becomes First Female President

Belize joined in Mexico’s celebration today as the country installed its first ever woman President.  Her Excellency Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo took her oath of office this morning in Mexico’s lower house of Congress in the presence of several state leaders including Prime Minister John Briceno.  In her inaugural address, Dr Sheinbaum spoke on the crime fighting advancements that Mexico will see with the country’s National Guard now under military control.  The 62-year-old leader also spoke of a plan that will see Mexico enhance its technological advancements, as well as an expansion of the basic basket of goods for residents, and a review on oil prices and opportunities afforded for women in the business sector.  Prime Minister Briceno left the country yesterday for Mexico City where he witnessed the change of the Presidential command.  Prime Minister returns home on Thursday.  During his absence, Hon. Cordel Hyde, Minister of Natural Resources, Petroleum and Mining, is holding over as Prime Minister.
