Belize Mourns the Loss of Roman Catholic Bishop Lawrence Sydney Nicasio

The clergy in Belize suffered a great loss on New Year’s Day with the death of Roman Catholic Bishop Lawrence Sydney Nicasio. Bishop Nicasio died on Monday morning just before five o’clock after an extended battle with cancer. He was 67. The Office of the Vicar General in Belize City issued a statement earlier to say that he died peacefully in hospice care. Meanwhile, the Belize Council of Churches has also issued a statement, highlighting Nicacio’s thirty-four years in ministry and applauding his lifetime of service and leadership. The council also offered condolences to Nicacio’s family and encouraged all who mourn his death to find solace in the belief that he will rest in peace and rise in glory.
