Belize Network of NGOs sides with unions

The Belize Network of NGOs (BNN) has joined the unions in their fight against corruption. In a press release issued today, they called on the government to immediately re-activate the UNCAC Project Board – as per the demands stated by the National Union Trade Congress of Belize (NTUCB).

The Belize Network of NGOs (BNN) has joined the unions in their fight against corruption. In a press release issued today, they called on the government to immediately re-activate the UNCAC Project Board – as per the demands stated by the National Union Trade Congress of Belize (NTUCB). They are also demanding meaningful budgetary support for UNCAC’s implementation as well as for the Integrity Commission. According to them, without a fully staffed Secretariat, the Commission has been rendered rather ineffective. Therefore, this would require GOB to provide enough resources to hire an Executive Director, an in-house legal advisor, and a Special Forensic Investigator. Additionally, like other organizations, they are calling for an independent and impartial investigation into the helicopter crash that took the lives of four Belize Defence Force soldiers. They state that a National Day of Prayer and mourning to honor the service of the two pilots and the two crew members is necessary. BNN is demanding the immediate action into these issues be taken now.
