Today is World Town Planning Day, also known as World Urbanism Day, an annual event that focuses on the importance of planning the development of communities. The event is being observed under the global “Learn Globally, Apply Locally,” which focuses on knowledge sharing among countries to develop innovative development plans that address common challenges. The Belize Association of Planners, says that there wasn’t a national event marking the day, but the association did reach out to municipalities countrywide, asking them to mark the day with an activity they saw fit. Carolyn Trench-Sandiford, President of the association spoke to Love News about the importance of the day and its relevance to Belize.
She added that many examples of issues that arise from not properly planning communities can be drawn from Belize City. Issues she notes that current municipal bodies now grapple with and are still working on solutions for.
World Town Planning Day was founded back in 1949.
