Belize Participates in Regional Training on Waste Management in Jamaica

Belize is one of the countries represented at the regional training and technical exchange on waste management, being held in Jamaica this week. Participants from all over the Caribbean gathered in Kingston on Tuesday, for the workshop which focuses on Strengthening Waste Information Systems and Capacity to Generate Waste Statistics. Participants will share best practices and experiences in improving waste management and review case studies from within the region. They will also discuss the unique challenges that Small Island Developing States have in the area of waste management, due to limited size and limited capacity. The workshop is being held under the Zero Waste in the Caribbean initiative, which was launched earlier this year to promote launched to promote integrated and sustainable waste management in the context of a circular economy in the Caribbean. The event is being facilitated by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), in collaboration with several international partners including the European Union, CARIFORUM, the German Development Cooperation, and the Inter-American Development Bank, among others. The workshops conclude on Thursday.
