The historical Swing Bridge is not the only purpose of the visit of CABEI officials. According to the CEO in the Ministry of Economic Development, Dr Osmond Martinez, there are other technical expertise and support that the organization will lend to Belize.
Dr. Osmond Martinez, CEO, Ministry of Economic Development: “The visit of CABEI to Belize is not only to look at the Swing Bridge, you know. It is also a bigger picture that we have and that is to restructure the integral security program which we have with CABEI which is of $60 million BZD, 30 million USD. A program that had been, that was developed back in 2010/2011 and the funds, the loan was approved in 2015 and that project was not moving. But the needs that we have now in Belize, they are totally different than the needs that were originally proposed on that proposal. So the technical people from CABEI along with the technical people from the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Belize Security, uh Integral Security Program are working to make the necessary adjustments along with the engineers from both the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing and the engineer from the Belize Integral Security Program. So that is the main objective.”
