Belize Peace Movement appeals for contributions in their legal battle

The Belize Peace Movement (BPM) is calling on Belizeans for contributions toward their legal battle in court for redistricting. The BPM headed by Robert Bobby Lopez is pushing to have the Belize Supreme Court delay the general elections to accommodate a redistricting exercise. The court date is set for October 28, but several legal opinions have commented against the delay of the general elections including the People’s United Party. Despite the arguments against a redistricting exercise at this juncture the BPM is adamant on getting it done. In a release issued today the Belize Peace Movement has accused both main political parties as holding the Belizean people captive. Love News spoke to Lopez on the recent release in which Lopez appealed to the public to educate themselves on the occurrences in our country. REDISTRICTING 1 IN OUT Lopez went ahead and stated that the redistricting exercise can be done in a short period of time. REDISTRICTING 2 IN OUT The release goes on to state, quote, “This is a costly but necessary fight and we need your help to restore this tranquil haven of democracy. Please contact us with your patriotic contribution in defense of Belize’s democracy.” End of quote.///

Lopez went ahead and stated that the redistricting exercise can be done in a short period of time.

Robert Lopez, Head, Belize Peace Movement: This exercise we have researched it, it can be done in a month or less, in fact it can be done in days. I said this six-seven months ago to the media. The ARCGIS program that is being used for redistricting around the world once the information is available you’d be surprised it could probably be done in hours so this nonsense that both parties are saying we don’t have enough time I want to be debunk that; I want to say you’re being disingenuous and you’re being untruthful to the Belizean people. We can redistrict within the next 60 days and have an election within the constitutional allotted time of the three month extension this can be done, must be done and we are committed to fight this all the way to Caribbean Court of Justice if we don’t get justice in our own country we are prepared but we need the help of Belizeans far and wide. Folks going to the court is a costly endeavor, it is not cheap and going to the CCJ is even costlier so we’re asking Belizeans if you value your democracy, if you value your freedom, your rights then contact us through email or through telephone and say “We want to support you. We want to join you in this effort.” that’s all we’re saying. And educate yourself most of all. Educate yourself. This is the most critical election in the independent history of our young democracy.”

The release goes on to state, quote, “This is a costly but necessary fight and we need your help to restore this tranquil haven of democracy. Please contact us with your patriotic contribution in defense of Belize’s democracy.”  End of quote.
