Similar concerns were echoed by the Belize People’s Front, which issued a strongly worded condemnation of what it described as renewed and intensifying economic aggression by the United States against Cuba, including proposals to penalize countries supplying the island with fuel and essential resources. The BPF characterized efforts to restrict Cuba’s access to energy as acts of coercion rather than diplomacy, arguing that such measures directly harm civilian life by crippling hospitals, water systems, food supply chains, and other critical services. The party noted that the brunt of the impact is borne by children, the elderly, the sick, and working families. The BPF also pointed to decades of sanctions and blockades against Cuba that have been repeatedly condemned by the international community, including at the United Nations, yet continue to persist. Calling on Belize to take a principled stance, the party said the country’s own history of anti-colonial struggle places a responsibility on it to defend sovereignty and self-determination. Issued by party leader Nefretery Nancy Marin, the statement urged an end to unilateral sanctions, renewed commitment to diplomacy, and a unified response through CARICOM and the Global South, while reaffirming solidarity with Cuba and Belize’s more than thirty years of cooperation and mutual respect with the island nation.
