Belize PM Briceno Set to Address UN on Climate and Financing for Small States

The 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly continues at this hour with Prime Minister John Briceno yet to deliver his address.  The annual gathering of world leaders is expected to address urgent global issues, including peace and security, sustainable development, climate change, and financing for vulnerable economies.  Belize has consistently used the UN platform to highlight the pressing concerns of small states. Prime Minister Briceño is expected to advance Belize’s call for stronger international action on climate resilience, emphasizing the urgent need for financing mechanisms that allow developing countries to adapt to the growing impacts of climate change. Debt sustainability and access to concessional financing for small and vulnerable economies are also anticipated to feature in Belize’s interventions.  The Prime Minister is accompanied by the Foreign Minister, Francis Fonseca.  The delegation departed Belize yesterday and will return on Saturday. During his absence, Deputy Prime Minister Cordel Hyde, is serving as Acting Prime Minister.
