Belize Police Department Installs 50 AI-Enhanced Cameras Funded by CABEI

The ministry’s latest crime-fighting initiative was funded through the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) through collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Development. Late last year, Police Commissioner Chester Williams, was on The Morning Show, and had announced that the 50 cameras will be installed with AI capabilities.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “I am proud to say through CABEI again and the constant pushing by our minister and I must commend the CEO in the Ministry of Economic Development Dr.Martinez who came onboard and pushed that CABEI project and we’re now reaping the benefits of that. We have received some vehicles through CABEI, hopefully by the end of January we’ll inaugurate the CABEI camera system in Belize City which is fifty cameras again and these cameras come with high tech artificial intelligence and again we are going to benefit tremendously from those cameras that have been installed.”

Troy Gabb, Host, The Morning Show: Any slated for John Smith Road ?

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “John Smith Road is covered with cameras. If you notice recently they’re not using John Smith again. We have installed a number of cameras on John Smith Road the. The last murder we had on John Smith Road we were able to solve that murder with the use of the cameras we have there. The cameras we have are very high resolution cameras and they do come with infrared capabilities so will have very good night vision and we have the PTZs which are the ones that pans can go 360 and the zoom capability is extremely well. From Racoon Street Police Station I took Benny’s building on the highway and put it right in front of me clean clean. They’re extremely good cameras and the cameras don’t only help to detect but also to prevent.”
