The decrease in crime recorded by the Belize Police Department is a testament to the hard work of the police, according to Minister of Home Affairs Kareem Musa. On Tuesday, the police released the newest statistics from its Computer Statistics (COMPSTAT). The data looked at trends in criminal activity and displayed a decrease in crime across the country. Musa says the fall in murders and other major crimes proves that the department has been making a great turnaround.
Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs: “I think that more than the commissioners solidification, it is the entire department. You know, many times police have a very thankless job. Many times the media are the first to go and attack the police department. But you have seen over the last year where there have been changes in terms of less accusations against the police department for abuse and brutality. And so you can see where there is a pivot within the department. And along with that comes excellent police work going hand in hand with the LIU. And so yes, at the very top there is the Commissioner of Police, but all police officers, I think that this year has been a good year for them and so we have to congratulate them when it is that we’re seeing the kind of results that we’re now seeing.”
