Belize Police Evidence Keeper Granted Leave to Leave Country Amidst Charges

Thirty-eight-year-old Mario Bustillos, the evidence keeper of the Belize Police Department charged in connection with an incident where minors consumed marijuana-laced gummies, has been granted permission to leave Belize. Bustillos made an application to the Belize City Magistrate’s Court to leave the jurisdiction for three days to go on vacation with his family in Chetumal, Mexico. The prosecution had no objection, so his application for him to leave from August 18 to 20 was granted. Bustillos was arraigned on Friday, April 28, 2023, on ten counts of negligent harm, over ten minors who ate the gummies that he had allegedly thrown out. Bustillos, who is represented by attorney Richard Dickie Bradley, is out on bail valued at seven thousand dollars. His next court appearance in that matter has been set for August 28.
