Belize Police Officers to Donate DNA Samples for Forensic Science Initiative

Belize Police Department will see several of its officers donating DNA samples for the initiative under the National Forensic Science Services.  Minister of Home Affairs confirmed to Love News that the National Forensic Sciences (NFSS) will be receiving a DNA Testing Machine soon. In preparation for this, NFSS is seeking to collect a thousand DNA samples in a significant step to enhance criminal investigation. Commissioner of Police Chester Williams says that members of the Police Department will be donating DNA samples.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “Certainly police will be volunteering. We had done this before I think about fifteen years ago every police officer gave sample for DNA and if it is that we need to do that again then we are willing to do that, that’s not an issue.”

NFSS has partnered with the University of Belize, St. John’s College Junior College, and the Belize Defense Force, but the call for volunteers is open to the general public.
