The Belize Port Authority (BPA) is rejecting allegations made on a local talk show yesterday. In a release, the BPA rejected the report that it had entered into a multi-million-dollar contract with a Panamanian company to digitize its operations. The BPA says that as part of its commitment to continuous improvement and in preparation for the IMO Member State Audit in November 2025, it has embarked on enhancing operations through several modernization initiatives. One such ongoing project is the development of a Maritime Single Window (MSW) platform in collaboration with Barbados Port Incorporated. However, while it is in communication with other entities for further modernization projects, it has not entered into any contractual arrangements with any other entity for the completion of its modernization plan. According to the BPA, the project will facilitate the smooth movement of vessels within Belize, ensuring full compliance with the requirements of the International Convention on Facilitation of International Maritime Traffic (FAL Convention).
