Belize Port Authority Warns Against Water Taxi Price Hikes for Easter

The Belize Port Authority (BPA) advises the public that no water taxi company has been approved to raise its ticket prices during the easter holidays. As dozens of people fill the lines at the designated water taxis across the country, citizens need to be aware of the approved ticket prices. Ports Commissioner, Darlin Gaitan spoke to Love News about the water taxi regulations.

Darlin Gaitan, Ports Commissioner: “We the love the sea around this time as well as a lot of maritime activities so we want to encourage safety and we also want to inform the general public of the approved water taxi rates and to ensure that when they’re purchasing tickets to visit the islands that they are being charged adequately and not overcharged. So we are going to also publish that as well for the general public to be aware and so that they can make reports wherever necessary. I’ll be sharing out the list of approved water taxi runs including the list of approved water taxi fares. And per the water taxi regulations, a water taxi operator is only approved to charge what has been issued to them per their water taxi license. And so this is going to be very good information for the general public who may not be aware of what the approved water taxi fares are. So when you go and purchase your ticket, you should be able to cross reference what has been the approved fare so that you’re not being overcharged for the service.”

A list of the approved water taxi fares countrywide can be found on the BPA Facebook page.
