Dr. Osmond Martinez, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, is leading Belize’s delegation to the Fifty-Ninth Regular Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED). The COTED meeting serves as a platform for member states to address trade and economic development challenges while seeking opportunities for regional integration. Key issues on the agenda include strategies for enhancing intra-regional trade, reducing non-tariff barriers, and bolstering the region’s competitiveness in the global market. The Belize delegation aims to advocate for policies that align with the nation’s priorities, including sustainable development, equitable trade practices, and strengthening the role of small economies within CARICOM. As the meeting progresses, Dr. Martinez is expected to hold bilateral discussions with regional counterparts to further advance Belize’s trade objectives and explore collaborative opportunities. Belize’s active engagement in COTED reflects its unwavering commitment to a unified Caribbean region, where shared goals and strategic partnerships drive collective progress. This is taking place in Georgetown, Guyana, today and tomorrow.
