Belize Ranks Among Countries with Lowest Child Mortality Rates, Shows Improvement in Life Expectancy

Belize has been listed as on the countries with the lowest death rate among the children population.  For the year 2021, the report shows that there were fifty-three neo-natal deaths, eighty deaths of children under five-years old, twenty-one deaths between the ages of five and fourteen, and fifty stillbirths.  According to the Global Child Report, produced by UNICEF, the years for life expectancy in Belize, has gone up a notch or two.  Back in 1970, life expectancy in 1970 was 63; that has progressed to age 70, for the year 2021.  The report also looked at areas in Early Childhood Development, Education, Child Protection, and Women Empowerment, among others.  The Global Child Health Report looked at vaccination as one of its key messages.  According to the report, UNICEF estimates that sixty-seven million children worldwide, missed out entirely or partially on routine immunization between 2019 and 2021.  This was attributed primarily, to the staying at home due to Covid-19, and the pressures placed on nurses and medical personnel during the pandemic.  The report noted that the low numbers in vaccination have not been seen since 2008.
