Belize Receives $250 Million Grant for Education and Energy Sectors from MCC

There is another grant that Belize is benefiting from, this time, through the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).  The two hundred and fifty million dollars will be used in the education and energy sectors.  Just last week, the Cabinet announced that it had approved for the Attorney General’s ministry to prepare draft legislation to establish the MILLENNIUM CHALLENGE ACCOUNT─BELIZE as a statutory body.  This will lend for the setting up of an office in Belize to serve as the implementation and coordination agency for the Millennium Challenge Corporation Compact.  Speaking on the grant funding was CEO for Economic Development, Dr Osmond Martinez.

The compact with MCC is planned for finalization in the next few days in Washington DC.  CEO Martinez says a delegation is being invited to Punta Cana

Belize was selected in December 2021 by the MCC’s Board of Directors as an eligible country to develop a compact.
