Belize Reiterates Support for Taiwan’s Participation at World Health Assembly

Belize has reiterated its support for the Republic of China (Taiwan) to participate at the World Health Assembly.  In a release sent out by the government, the country’s position was once again made clear, that they are supporting the participation of the Republic of China (Taiwan) at the 77th World Health Assembly (WHA). The release noted that inclusivity is a key element to the attainment of improved health outcomes globally, and that Taiwan is an indispensable partner committed to ensuring that there are collaborative efforts made worldwide in health and wellness. It further noted that Taiwan has stood firm in its commitment to participate and work along with the World Health Organization (WHO) in various health capacities. According to the government, Taiwan has played an essential role in the health of Belizeans, by assisting Belize in emergency response efforts, in prevention and control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), in updating and upgrading health electronic systems and in building capacity at every tier of our health system. With this in mind, and the fact that many countries globally could attest to the great contributions that Taiwan has made to the health and wellness sectors of their people, and its robust health care system, they should be allowed to share their knowledge and gain experiences from other countries.  Belize calls for Taiwan to be included in all health emergency-related meetings and mechanisms in order to ensure that true solidarity and collaboration continues in health, globally.
