Belize Remains in Talks with Mexico to Join Tren Maya Project

Belize remains in talks with the Government of Mexico to be a part of the Tren Maya mega project. The tourism venture seeks to connect the southeastern coast of Mexico from Cancun to Chetumal via high-speed trains. Earlier this year, Investment Ambassadors Jaime Briceno and Haisam Diab met with representatives of the Tren Maya to ask for Belize to be a part of the project. And, last week, those discussion intensified as a high-level team from Mexico met with representatives from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Agriculture. Laura Elena Carrillo Cubillas, Mexico’s Vice Minister for Foreign Relations in Latin America and the Caribbean, spoke about the intentions.

The delegation met with various government representatives during their visit.
