Belize Takes Strong Stand Against Israeli Actions: Withdraws Ambassador Accreditation and Suspends Diplomatic Activities

The Government of Belize is taking a stand against the Israeli Defence Force (IDF) following the indiscriminate bombings in Gaza that has claimed more than eleven thousand lives.  In a release sent out this morning, Belize’s has announced the withdrawal from its Agrément for the accreditation of Israel’s Ambassador Designate to Belize, His Excellency Einat Kranz-Neiger.  Additionally, the government has suspended the appointment of Israel’s Honorary Consul for Belize as well as all activities conducted by the Israeli Honorary Consulate in Belize.  Furthermore, the Belize government is suspending all activities of Belize’s Honorary Consulate in Tel Aviv, Israel and withdrawing the appointment of its Honorary Consul, and has also decided to withdraw its request for accreditation of Jonathan Enav as Belize’s Honorary Consul.  The decisions were made after Belize’s appeals to Israel for a ceasefire, and access for humanitarian aid have fallen on deaf ears.  The release noted, quote, “Despite our requests, Israel has not stopped its violations of international humanitarian law nor allowed relief workers to alleviate the suffering of millions of Gazans. With the approval of the Cabinet and other PUP members of the House of Representatives, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Immigration has implemented these measures.”  End of quote.
