Belize Tallies One Hundred Eleven New Cases of COVID-19

Belize tallied one hundred and eleven new cases of COVID-19 today. In addition, the Ministry of Health and Wellness reports that three more fatalities are being attributed to the coronavirus, bring the death toll to five hundred and sixty-nine. However, active cases stand at one thousand two hundred and sixteen, down from about one thousand seven hundred only a week ago. While these numbers sound promising, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has given a stark warning about complacency across the Caribbean. Doctor Carissa Etienne explained during a press conference earlier today.

Here at home, of the twenty-eight people who are hospitalized, eighteen of them are unvaccinated. Four of the nine in the ICU are also unvaccinated. Most of the new cases were in Belize District, which include twenty-one here in the city and four on San Pedro. Conversely, Orange Walk recorded the lowest new infections today at just five, four of which were in the town.///
