Belize Telemedia Reports Increased Revenues Despite Losing Some Government Business
As Belize Telemedia Limited (DIGI) is hoping to collect the millions owed by consumers, the company says they can confidently report an increase in revenues despite losing the business of several government departments. Chairman, Mark Lizarraga, confirmed this in response to our question on whether the company was severely impacted when some government departments switched phone company. According to GOB, the decision was a cost-saving measure that resulted in fewer expenditures, despite BTL being a state-owned company.
Mark Lizarraga, Chairman, BTL Board of Directors: “There have been a few instances where services have gone from one company to the other but we continue thankfully because of our good service and because of our capacity and our modern equipment and the infrastructure. No other service provider can provide the services that we provide and the quality in which we provide it. So we continue to receive the vast majority of government’s business thankfully.”
Reporter: The revenue wasn’t affected though by the departments that had switched over ?
Mark Lizarraga, Chairman, BTL Board of Directors: “No as a matter of fact our national telecom’s revenues continue to increase, our profits continue to increase through efficiency, through cost savings and through becoming leaner and meaner so to speak we have not cut any of our services, we have not cut any salaries, we have not done any of that. We’ve just improved efficiency and our national telecom is on the path to full recovery and competitivity.”
