Belize to End Automatic Promotions in Schools, Focus on Competencies

Prime Minister John Briceno has announced that the Ministry of Education will be putting a stop to automatic promotions in schools.  For many years, students have been promoted based on their age, and the issue of spaces in the classrooms, and not necessarily by their academic levels.  Under Minister Francis Fonseca, the promotions are now going to happen based on competencies.  PM Briceno noted that the results of the automatic promotions are now being seen as persons in the workforce are not reflecting the necessary competencies.
