Belize to Join in the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy

At the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Malta, Queen Elizabeth the Second expressed gratitude for the donations of the rainforest and other environmental projects serving the CHOGM for the past sixty years. Commonwealth countries such as Belize, Sri Lanka, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Australia, and Zambia, have committed to protecting environmental areas of their country. The area being protected will be in the Queen’s name called The Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy (QCC) to demonstrate unity on the environment.  The Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy will be led by The Royal Commonwealth Society in partnership with NGO Cool Earth and The Commonwealth Forestry Association, with the aim of eventually linking all 53 Commonwealth countries in a canopy of sustainable forest conservation initiatives for future generations. Singapore will dedicate 163 hectares of Singapore’s Bukit Timah Nature Reserve forest to The Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy. The National Forest Company will create a national forest across 200 square miles of central England. Australia will also join the QCC initiative by dedicating Commonwealth projects created through the development of the Asia-Pacific Rainforest Recovery Plan to help halt and reverse the loss of tropical rainforest. Other dedications to come include Belize, Zambia and others are expected over the coming months.
