The Government of Belize is introducing a new digital system designed to streamline immigration and customs procedures for travelers next month. Persons entering and leaving Belize through the international airport will soon be required to submit online immigration and customs declarations before arrival using a web link. The initiative is a collaboration between the Department of Border Management and Immigration Services, the Customs and Excise Department, and the Ministry of Public Utilities, Energy, Logistics, and E-Governance. It is aimed at enhancing efficiency at the airport by reducing paperwork for all travelers and improving data collection. Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Public Utilities, Energy, Logistics, and E-Governance Jose Urbina spoke about the project and how it came to fruition.
The changes will first be implemented at the Phillip Goldson International Airport during a three-month introductory period. CEO Urbina explained that the ministry will be collecting data during that time to make adjustments before it is rolled out to all ports of entry.
CEO Urbina added that the government is encouraging travelers to provide feedback during the test phase to support ongoing improvements.
