Belize To Observe World Ozone Day, Will Highlight Environmental Commitment

On Saturday, September 16, Belize will join the world in observing World Ozone Day. The annual event raises awareness about the importance of the layer of the stratosphere, which absorbs harmful UV radiation from the sun. The Department of the Environment (DOE) has been hosting various activities leading up to the event to engage the public. Cindy Cunil, Ozone Officer Assistant in the DOE’s National Ozone Unit, explained that Belize is a signatory to the Montreal Protocol, a global effort to save the ozone layer.

The event is being observed this year under the theme, “Fixing the Ozone Layer and Reducing Climate Change”.
