Belize Tourism Expects Surge in Airlifts, Reaffirming Position as Premier Destination

Belize Tourism Board (BTB) says the country is poised for an upsurge in airlifts from the North America market by the end of 2024.  The projection comes as the industry’s capacity is set to surpass the 2019 pre-pandemic level. The capacity’s expansion reaffirms Belize’s position as a leader and premier destination in the Central American tourism industry among U.S and Canadian travelers. Director of Cruise & Capacity Development, Lloyd Enriquez spoke about the initiative.

Lloyd Enriquez, Director of Cruise and Capacity Development: The Belize Tourism Board has embarked on many many initiatives but the most important one is looking at the airlift capacity. So the Ministry spearheaded by the Minister there is an airline development committee which actually goes and visits with the airlines and encourages them to come to Belize. So expanding routes is very critical for us. The US market in particular accounts for 68% or thereabout  of our total overnight visitors so that’s where we focused most of our efforts.”

BTB’s Aviation Development Committee is responsible for stimulating additional in-bound arrivals from the USA, Canada, Europe, Asia and Central and South America.
