Belize’s national male volleyball team is preparing to close out 2024 with one final regional tournament. The Under-19 male team will depart for San Salvador on Friday to compete in the 15th AFECAVOL Central American U-19 Male Volleyball Championship. Allan Sharp, President of the Belize Volleyball Association, says it has been a hectic but rewarding year for volleyball in Belize. He says he believes the team is ready to bring home more medals. Sharp emphasized that the team traveling to El Salvador has shown admirable dedication to their training and preparation for the tournament.

Allan Sharp, President, Belize Volleyball Association: “It’s a closeout of an extremely busy year for us, probably one of the busiest ever and of course lots of medals we won this year and we hope to continue as we close out the year. The team leaving on Friday U19 Men going to San Salvador. All seven countries are there for this tournament. It’s going to be a battle because again in the mens league normally there’s a lot of parity amongst teams so it’s all going tog be about working hard and being ready too play day to day because it’s six matches you have to play and we have to make sure that we’re up and ready to play all six days. We have an opportunity once again our young guys have been training, they’re ready. We have guys from all over the country on this team and volleyball has been playing and they’ve been training hard with the Cuban coach and the Belizean coaches and I think they have a great chance of doing well. Well it’s been challenging of course because this is the time of year for school volleyball so there’s been high school volleyball, tertiary volleyball which most of the players are coming from, also there’s been some of the international volleyball going on so that has also been a challenge. But we look at it on the positive side. We have to say these are more games under their belts, they’ve been able to play in competition because we have players from all over the districts from all six districts or from different districts that we basically put a lot of the concentration on the weekends. The Friday, Saturday, Sunday practices are very key and we put a lot of investment into that because we know that they can do well so we believe that they’re very well prepared.”
Notably, the national Under-15 female team will leave Belize next Monday to participate in a regional competition.
