The 2024 theme for the September Celebrations was unveiled this afternoon just after two o’clock. The theme, ‘A Nation Proud and Free: Belize at 43” was submitted by David Watson, a local musician who says his idea was focused on national pride. Today’s unveiling took less than an hour with the key remarks delivered by Minister of Culture and History, Francis Fonseca who highlighted some of the events on the celebrations’ calendar.
Mayor Bernard Wagner, in his 5-minute remarks, spoke on the importance of what it means to be a Belizean in this day and age.
The National September Celebrations Committee opened the competition open in March and saw the submissions of some six hundred and fifteen proposals. While the actual celebrations are still about two months away, Minister Fonseca noted that the early unveiling is crucial for marketing purposes.
Watson received a cash prize of one thousand dollars for his winning submission. The House of Culture hosted some sixty persons at the morning’s official event including the Cabinet Secretary, Stuart Leslie and the Mayors from across the country.
