Belize was represented last week at two high-level gatherings of regional water utility companies. The Belize Water Services (BWS) attended the meetings, which were hosted by the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) along with the Government of Barbados. On April 6, BWS Executive Chairman, Cornelio Acosta, met with top government and water sector officials, including Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley. Discussions centered on boosting collaboration between Belize and Barbados in water management, capacity building, and sharing knowledge. Then, on April 7 and 8, Acosta joined a wider regional water and sanitation conference. Today, Acosta told our newsroom that BWS’s exemplary performance in that water sector earned the country a spot in the Global Water Intelligence to attend the 2025 Global Water Summit and a membership in the exclusive “Group of 300 Water Leaders.”
Acosta said that representatives from Barbados’s water sector are coming to Belize next month for a knowledge-sharing exercise.
