Belize Wins Silver at Regional Volleyball Championship

Over the weekend, Belize’s Men’s National Volleyball Team delivered their strongest performance yet at the AFECAVOL Men’s Final Four Championship held in El Salvador, securing a hard-fought silver medal after a nail-biting five-set match against regional powerhouse Guatemala, the eventual gold medallists. The close contest displayed Belize’s rising prominence in Central American volleyball. Standout players Francis Hauze and Hakan Godoy earned top individual honors, with Hauze awarded 1st Best Attacker and Godoy named 2nd Best Blocker, underscoring their pivotal roles in the team’s success. After the win, athlete Bryton Codd spoke with Salvadoran media explaining what the win meant for Belize.

The team’s triumphant return was temporarily delayed due to a teacher-led nationwide strike in Guatemala, with roadblocks set up by the Guatemala Education Workers Union.
