Belize Zoo and Tropical Research Center hosts grand celebration for Sharon Matola Day

Over the weekend the Belize Zoo and tropical Research Center celebrated the second annual Sharon Matola Day, in honor of the visionary and conservation icon that founded the zoo. Celso Poot, Director of the Belize Zoo told Love News that the event, which also saw the debut of the Neo the River Otter enclosure, was a success

Poot also said that the Belize Zoo issued the first-ever Sharon Matola scholarship, which is valued at $10,000 to help pay the way for future conservationists in Belize.

Poot said that the Belize Zoo will be putting out a call for the second scholarship recipient around April 2024, so the scholarship can be given on the next Sharon Matola Day.
