Every day more and more people around the globe continue to be impacted, economically, by COVID-19. In Belize, several businesses and vendors have shut their doors and employees have been laid-off or terminated. In the case of the Belize Zoo located on the Western Highway have reported a significant decrease in visits over the past two weeks. In speaking with the founding director of the Belize Zoo, Sharon Matola, she explained to us that this decrease has impacted them significantly. They are now asking for the public’s assistance in acquiring food to feed the approximate 200 animals at the zoo.
Matola noted that they have not terminated or laid-off any of their employees but rather have given them shorter working hours. She also explained that the zoo has seen tougher times and is confident they will bounce back from this crisis.
