A wave of laughter and nostalgia swept through Queen Street today with the official launch of Laugh Out Loud Belize, the long-awaited memoir by Belizean author Darrell Carter. The book was unveiled at Angelus Press Limited, drawing readers eager to reconnect with lighter moments from Belize’s past. Set against the backdrop of what was once known as British Honduras, Carter’s memoir revisits everyday life through a series of humorous reflections and vivid storytelling. His narratives transport readers to the River Valley, the lively streets of Maskall, and other familiar communities, brought to life through colorful characters and personal anecdotes. Beyond its humor, the book offers an accessible window into Belizean history, presenting cultural memory through storytelling rather than formal historical record. Carter explained that his motivation for writing stemmed from a desire to preserve stories that reflect the resilience, creativity, and humor of Belizean people, particularly during periods of social change.
