Belizean Beekeepers Attend 48th International Apicultural Congress in Chile

Apimondia (API-MON-DYA), an international organization that connects beekeepers, specialists, and researchers from all over the world, is holding its 48th International Apicultural Congress and Belize is being represented. The congress which began on September fourth, is being held in Santiago, Chile, and will continue until September 8. Two representatives from the Orange Walk Beekeepers Cooperative are attending. The event focuses on several critical areas in beekeeping including maintaining profitability while protecting the environment, creating more value-added products from beekeeping, and biodiversity in land use. Locally, the August the Ministry of Agriculture Food Security and Enterprise, has been supporting beekeepers in Belize by holding several training sessions this year. At the end of August, the ministry hosted training for over 40 beekeepers in the south on making wax, soap and other products from beeswax.
