Belizean Delegation Attends Gender Equality and Sustainable Development Dialogue in Saint Lucia

The National Assembly of Belize was represented in Saint Lucia at a Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue on Gender Equality and Sustainable Development by a cohort of women parliamentarians. The Belizean delegation included the speaker of the House of Representatives, Valerie Woods, Senator Janelle Chanona, Chair of the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus, and Senator Erica Jang. There were representatives from 17 Caribbean countries. On the first day, the speaker’s main objective was to discuss innovative initiatives to end violence against women and girls and good practices for building partnerships to advance gender equality and sustainable development. On the second day, the delegation participated in a workshop and examined Small Island Developing States (SIDS) specific issues from a gender perspective. The ParlAmericas, the UN Women Multi-Country Office for the Caribbean, and the Parliament of Saint Lucia hosted the two-day event.
