Belizean Diplomat, Seidi Quetzal, Honored with UN General Assembly Fellowship

Belize’s Foreign Service Officer, Seidi Quetzal, has been named the first Belizean to be granted the President of the General Assembly Fellowship at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA.  Quetzal is attached to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, and has made the news after several successful undertakings.  Back in March 2023, Quetzal was recognized for her successful, ‘Don’t Tax My Femininity’ campaign which advocated for the removal of taxes on female hygiene products.  Quetzal, with support from the Special Envoy for the Development of Families and Children and the Minister of Human Development, Families and Indigenous People’s Affairs, Dolores Balderamos Garcia, had presented her idea to the Cabinet.  The initiative was then followed by an announcement in the House of Representatives on March 10 of the removal of taxes on feminine products.  With this recent milestone for Quetzal, Belize’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed gratitude to His Excellency Philemon Yang, President of the UN General Assembly for his commitment to investing in the development of young people, underscoring the importance of the Pact for the Future.
