Belizean, 32-year-old Audrey Urbina has been dismissed from the British Military and ordered to serve nine months in detention after being found guilty in the UK of fraud.  We first reported the story at the start of October 2019 when it was uncovered that Urbina, who was attached to the United Kingdom Army, had misused seventeen thousand pounds from the army funds; equivalent to about forty-two thousand Belize dollars.  According to a UK publication, Corporal Audrey Urbina reportedly used her position as an Army ‘class one admin worker’ to book dozens of transatlantic flights over a period of 17 months. It is believed that Urbina used monies from the Ministry of Defence to book flights to Cancun, Miami, Guatemala and Belize. During the trial, Urbina said she couldn’t remember booking many of the journeys and has no idea who one of the people is she booked for. In her defence, she noted that she thought it was okay to book flights for her family as she considers them as her dependents.  Urbina had offered to pay back the money and admitted lying to a travel agent when she was booking the flights. The names of several of her relatives living in various parts of the world including Belize reportedly benefited from the flights.  An updated article from the UK noted, quote, “Corporal Audrey Urbina – who served in Afghanistan – abused her Military entry so she might have her personal ‘private free journey company’ to deal with household and pals to dozens of flights.  Sentencing her to 9 months in detention and sacking her from the British Military, Assistant Choose Advocate Alan Massive launched a scathing assault on Ministry of Defence procedures which left it susceptible to reminiscent of ‘unsophisticated fraud’.  The 32-year-old – who has served within the Military 10 years – was cleared of an extra rely of fraud at her three-day trial at Bulford Navy Courtroom, Wiltshire.”  End of quote.
