Belizean Fisherman Pleads Not Guilty to Aggravated Assault Charge

A fisherman pleaded not guilty in court this afternoon after he was charged with aggravated assault. The Pickstock Street resident, 36-year-old, Tyrel Palma told the magistrate that he has a witness that would verify that he was nowhere near the complainant and that he is being lied on. Chief Magistrate, Jayani Wegodapola, told the defendant that because he is pleading not-guilty there is no need for an explanation as today’s hearing was only an arraignment. The Chief Magistrate accepted the plea and granted Palma bail in the sum of one thousand five hundred dollars. The allegation is that Palma pulled out a machete on Michelle Crawford yesterday. He is slated to return to court on July 13, 2023.
